Brooklyn drill heavyweight Fivio Foreign has spent most of 2025 behind bars but a window of opportunity may soon open that could get his career back in motion for the rest of the year.
The rapper, best known for his hit “City of Gods,” has been incarcerated since January following a weapons-related arrest on New Year’s Day in Edgewater, New Jersey. However, with a new plea deal now in place, Fivio whose real name is Maxie Ryles III could be looking at a return to freedom as soon as this summer.
According to the New Jersey Public Information Office, Fivio recently pleaded guilty to one count of making terroristic threats, a third-degree charge tied to allegations of violent threats. His attorney, Adam Lustberg, confirmed that four other charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and aggravated assault are expected to be dismissed under the terms of the plea deal.
The arrest followed an incident in which a woman claimed Fivio pulled a gun on her after she asked him for help jump-starting her car. Police responded and ultimately charged the rapper with multiple offenses, launching a legal battle that has sidelined him from music for nearly six months.
Now, with sentencing scheduled for August, there’s cautious optimism. Lustberg stated he hopes the court will take Fivio’s time served into account and opt for probation over further jail time, potentially clearing the way for the rapper to re-enter the music scene.
For Fivio, this legal development arrives at a critical moment. 2025 was expected to be a breakout year, but his incarceration has left a noticeable void in New York’s drill movement, where he remains a leading voice. A summer release would give Fivio a real chance to get back on track, reconnect with fans, and reclaim momentum for the second half of the year.
Fans and industry watchers alike will be keeping a close eye on the August sentencing and on whether Fivio Foreign can turn this potential turning point into a full-fledged comeback.
