Spotlight on Curren$y: The Jet Life Founder’s Prolific Year, New Album, Collabs, and Wiz Khalifa Reunion

Born Shante Scott Franklin on April 4, 1981, Curren$y is a New Orleans rapper who did stints with Cash Money and Young Money before founding Jet Life Recordings in 2011. Since then, he has maintained an active release schedule through Jet Life, which also operates as an apparel and lifestyle brand.

Although often criticized for rarely reinventing himself — he almost exclusively riffs on cars, money, and weed —consistency is definitely a large part of the artist’s appeal.

A Decade-Plus Partnership With Harry Fraud

Curren$y’s collaborations with producer Harry Fraud date back to the blog era. Their 2012 EP Cigarette Boats was named XXL’s EP of the Year. On November 6, 2026, the pair returned with Off To The Races, a 10-track project with an impressive guest roster that includes Rome Streetz, Wiz Khalifa, Bruiser Wolf, and Fendi P.

Leading the charge are the singles “The Telethon” and “Duffle 2 The Dealership”, the latter of which sets Curren$y’s rhymes about fast cars and high-end living against Fraud’s atmospheric synths and percussion.

Curren$y’s Busiest Year: Larry June, The Alchemist and Wiz Khalifa

Off To The Races is Curren$y’s fifth full-length project of 2026. In February, he joined Larry June and The Alchemist for Spiral Staircases, a seven-track album that marked the first full-length from the trio.

Curren$y and The Alchemist first worked together on 2011’s Covert Coup. Larry June has credited him with steering his style, recalling that Curren$y once told him: “Larry, I love your trap shit, but you gotta do that smooth sh*t.”

Wiz Khalifa Reunion: Roofless Records For Drop Tops

In April, Curren$y reunited with Wiz Khalifa for Roofless Records For Drop Tops: Disc 1, a 10-track project produced by Cardo. Within weeks, he followed up with an eight-track, feature-free Disc 2 with Harry Fraud. The pair previously teamed up on 2019’s 2009.

Reception was mixed. One reviewer called Disc 1 stale while acknowledging that Curren$y carried its strongest moments. Another said the duo’s best days are long past, but still enjoyed the sequel. Wiz summed up the pitch by saying: “This album turns any car into a drop top.”

On Tour: The Winners Circle Tour With The 747 Band

On the live front, Curren$y spent spring 2026 on The Winners Circle Tour, backed by The 747 Band with Fendi P as a special guest and Jay Electronica on select dates. Stops included Tempe, San Diego, St. Louis, Pontiac, and New York’s Sony Hall in May, with live arrangements of fan favorites and recent releases.

Built on Loyalty

In an era of streaming churn, Curren$y’s model relies on volume, loyalty, and ownership. His incessant release schedule frequently involves trusted producers and collaborators, with Jet Life always at the center. Consequently, his catalog serves both casual listeners looking for lifestyle rap and a core audience that follows his every drop.

It could be argued that Curren$y’s insistence on sticking to the same subject matter has made him somewhat predictable. Even so, with five full-length projects in a single year, he remains one of hip-hop’s most prolific independent artists.
