When Major Key‘s tracklist was revealed, Nas’ song caused enough intrigue based on its title alone — “Nas Album Done” — but now there’s more reason to get excited. On Wednesday, DJ Khaled shared nostalgia about the Fugee’s classic album, The Score, in an Instagram post entitled “A letter to the Fugees” before making a big reveal.
I remember the 1st time I heard the angelic voice of Lauryn Hill singing Ooooh La La La…It was like a voice from heaven. Alongside the genius musician/artist Wyclef and Pras they formed the iconic and one of my favorite groups the Fugees. The Fugees pushed the culture forward and was an inspiration to me as a fan of great music and an inspiration to this day.
Well, it turns out Khaled got the Jersey hip-hop trio’s permission to sample one of The Score‘s standouts, “Fu-Gee-La,” for the Major Key album cut featuring Nas, and he wanted to “extend my tremendous appreciation to The Fugees for giving me their blessing.” And of course, the Miami DJ wants us to trust him that “it’s serious.” It’s probably not an exaggeration this time, considering “Nas Album Done” combines one of the best MCs dead or alive with the amazing voice of Lauryn Hill.
