Will Smith and Martin Lawrence‘s Bad Boys 3 has reportedly suffered a setback. The much-anticipated Hollywood blockbuster will no longer hit theaters next year.

According to reports, the sequel to 2003’s Bad Boys 2 will arrive in 2018 and undergo a title change.

Sony is still nailing down a production start date, hence it would never be ready by next summer for its June 2 date. No problem for the Culver City studio as the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. weekend of January 12, 2018, will do just fine. In its new spot, Bad Boys for Life will go up against 20th Century FoxÔÇÖs Maze Runner: The Death Cure and Paramount animated feature Sherlock Gnomes. (Deadline)

Last spring, Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer inked a new deal for a Bad Boys movie.

Sources connected with both Bruckheimer and Smith tell TMZ, the 2 have talked for hours in the last 2 days — 4 hours at dinner Tuesday night and a long lunch on Wednesday — to hash out the terms of the contract. Months ago, Will Smith dished on his interest on the long-awaited Bad Boys 2 follow-up.

“You know what? I saw Martin a few days ago, a few weeks ago and I hadn’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other and we hugged and in that moment, we both knew we were making another Bad Boys. [laughs] So yeah, we’re definitely doing another one.” (BBC Radio 1Xtra)

In summer 2014, speculation about a Bad Boys 3 movie coming together intensified.

When asked whether a Bad Boys 3 is possible, Martin said that he has spoken with Jerry Bruckheimer and that the film is indeed happening. Martin told Conan, “Yes!
