NYC Flight Night Artist Spotlight: Ty Vybz

Ty Vybz

As the New York City stop on Kota the Friend’s Flight Night Festival approaches, it is essential to remember the true purpose of the tour, and of the fltbys brand. That mission is clearly restated in a fltbys Instagram Post:

“Ever since 2008 we’ve been giving people the opportunity to get on stage, when no one else was giving the opportunity,” said Kota.  “Fltbys has always been a young company of people who just want to do something but have no platform.”

Embracing the concept of connecting up-and-coming talent to their community, we will showcase a stacked lineup of opening acts in NYC, before Kota takes the stage at Sony Hall on July 22nd and 23rd. A newcomer on the scene, Ty Vybz will be introducing himself loud and clear on Saturday night, the 23rd.

NYC Flight Night

Ty Vybz was born and raised in downtown Brooklyn, and grew up between there and the neighborhood of Brownsville.  He’s spent time all over New York for school and music, but still has a special affinity for Brooklyn.

Vybz burst onto the scene in 2020, using a three track collection of tracks from a live performance video that was shot and premiered by African Entertainment Awards USA (AEAUSA).  This video showcases more than just Vybz dynamic musical talents, it shows immense energy and charisma as a performer.

Ty Vybz’ Sound

Vybz last name speaks directly to his talent as an artist.  This man is a walking, talking vibe.  It’s easy to see through his social media page that he possesses gifts across the board when it comes to the performing arts.  A true renaissance man, Vybz can sing, dance, and produce, putting his stock at a premium for a live event like Flight Night.

Focusing on the music itself, Ty Vybz matches crisp vocals with up-tempo beats.  He adds great depth to tracks with silky melodies and harmony.  His music generates a contagious, uplifting energy, with free spirited, warm, and exciting lyricism.  Vyb’s music is upbeat and naturally invites dance.  These elements provide a great backdrop for Flight Night attendees looking to have a good time.

Vybz dropped his debut single Show Em this year, which exhibits all his talents as a recording artist. Pure summer vibes, Show Em will take listeners back to the early 2000s.  It would be easy to draw comparisons to artists like The Dream, Pretty Ricky, or Lloyd.  Vybz shares vocal similarities with these R&B legends, but has brought their sound forward, using more contemporary instrumentals, and a new wave of songwriting.

That said, Ty Vybz draws from even further back in the history of soul music for influence, citing a true R&B legend as his muse.  “Outside of myself, I draw a lot of inspiration from Bobby Brown, and his two albums ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ & “Bobby.  As a new/up-and-coming artist, I have a lot more music to release that’ll vividly paint the picture that best represents me.”

With great knowledge of the roots of his sound, and laser-like focus on sharing more of his art with the world, Ty Vybz is making all the right moves for an artist looking to make a name.

Ty Vybz on Independence

While Vybz continues to hone his craft, he understands that there is more to the game than making good music.  To create a fanbase, an independent artist has to create their own hype.  Build their fanbase organically.  One by one if necessary. Ty understands he has to move in and out of a creative place to get this done.

As an independent act/brand, it can be challenging having to wear multiple hats to get the job done versus just being the artist and staying in that creative space.”

While challenges executing on the business end can be daunting, they are necessary.  They are the difference between artists who consider music a hobby, and a career.  With a clear understanding of what it takes, Flight Night will be a huge promotional opportunity. A special chance for Vybz to share his brand and artistic talents with his city.

Flight Night

Ty Vybz appreciates the weight of the moment. Most of all, he is approaching Flight Night as a great opportunity to connect with a NYC audience.

It’s special to be performing in Flight Night. Watched it grow from the outside and being invited to perform is super dope. It being in NYC makes it even better.”

For an emerging artist like Vybz to have an opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of an event like Flight Night must be a special feeling.  Especially sharing that moment with friends and family in the city where you’re from.

Stay tuned as we will be highlighting each local act on the roster for New York City Flight Night.  Limited tickets are available for the second night (Saturday, July 23rd.)
