The name check took place after Nas’ freestyle over Kendrick Lamar’s “Man At The Garden” instrumental. Chris had already been making waves via Spotify and was garnering a devoted following online. Now, with a new single, an upcoming album, and the formidable Def Jam machinery behind him, the question is no longer whether he will break out — but when.
The Single, the Statement
“Check Me” dropped on August 28 via Def Jam Recordings. Produced by M-Tech, it’s a hard-hitting mission statement that describes financial hardship, family loss, and long periods of uncertainty, all culminating in the position of strength that the artist now finds himself in.
