NBA superstars Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul delivered a powerful message about the current state of the nation during the 2016 ESPY Awards ceremony.
The high-profile professional athletes opened the annual showcase with an emphasis on acknowledging the nation’s recent publicized violence.
“Generations ago, legends like Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, John Carlos and Tommie Smith, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown, Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe and countless others, they set a model for what athletes should stand for,” said Paul, the Los Angeles Clippers’ star point guard. “So we choose to follow in their footsteps.” (ESPN)
Last week, Melo issued a full statement in the New York Daily News newspaper on police brutality following two publicized slayings.
A few days ago, Melo went to Instagram to let his voice be heard.
Anthony’s words came after Brooklyn rapper Fabolous asked sports athletes to speak out.
