Drake & Gucci ManeÔÇÖs First-Week Sales Put Rap Atop Competition

OVO Sound leader Drake’s Views and Gucci Mane‘s Everybody Looking albums have both put on for hip-hop with impressive placements atop the music charts this week.

According to reports, Drizzy and Gucci’s solo efforts topped the retail competition.

His Views (YMCMB/Republic) is #1 on the HITS Sales Plus Streaming Chart once again. With 83k, he takes the top spot for a 12th non-consecutive week. To recap, this is his third consecutive week at #1 since BMGÔÇÖs blink-182 momentarily dethroned him at the start of July. Last week, Views officially became the first album to score 1m in SEA (Streaming Equivalent Albums) thanks to 1.5b+ streams. As for this week, though, Gucci Mane scored the highest debut, landing at #2 on the SPS chart with 70k for Everybody Looking, his first musical release since he himself was released from prison. Drake’s Views sold nearly 90,000 copies in its 11th week of availability.

DrakeÔÇÖs Views remains steady at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for an 11th nonconsecutive week, as the set earned another 89,000 equivalent album units (down 3 percent) in the week ending July 21, according to Nielsen Music. Views has now earned the most weeks at No. 1 for an album since Taylor SwiftÔÇÖs 1989 spent its 11th and final week atop the list on the chart dated Feb. 21, 2015. The last album to lead for more than 11 weeks was the Frozen soundtrack (13 weeks, 2014). (Billboard)

A few weeks ago, Views fell from grace after battling it out with rock group Blink-182.

After nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, DrakeÔÇÖs Views is dethroned from the top slot by Blink-182ÔÇÖs new set, California. The latter debuts at No. 1 with 186,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 7, according to Nielsen Music. (Billboard)
