Looks like E-40 is the latest name brand to take advantage of Kamaiyah’s blossoming star power, recruiting the Bay Area rapper/singer for his new single “Petty.”
The latest slap from Forty Water isn’t the best song in the world, but it’s extremely catchy off rip and hard to shake after turning off. The song’s simplistic vibe is built on sparse production from J Hawk that leaves plenty of room for these vocally-enticing MCs to draw attention to their flamboyant flow and sharp lyrics, putting bullseyes directly on penny pinchers and people who go to war over minor infractions. The song is bound to click – no pun intended – with both of their fan bases and might even be the next surprise radio hit from rap’s most consistent renaissance man.
Wonder what N.O.R.E. thinks about this one though, considering he dropped a song with the same exact title a few weeks ago, only from the completely opposite perspective – making petty a positive thing. It doesn’t help Forty’s version has 10x more mass appeal, to boot. Tough luck.
Either way, E-40’s upcoming duo album pack The D-Boy Diary: Book 1 & 2 drops this November and we’re pretty sure we’ll be hearing plenty more where this came from until then. I’ll sip some Earl Stevens Function Red Blend to that.
