If you’re a Nas fan, chances are you’ve been excited since “Nas Album Done” surfaced last week on DJ Khaled’s Major Key. While the album continues to be held in mystery, it is completed. Nas just doesn’t want to tell us when or any other details for that matter. Instead, his latest round of media interviews look toward the future of what he has planned for a post-Def Jam career. Spoiler alert: Lost Tapes is brought up a lot.

A second installment of Lost Tapes has been talked about on and off for many years. It was once a Def Jam release, but nothing materialized from that. Instead, Nas has kept the music stacking up in hopes of being able to turn Lost Tapes into a series that will run for several years, which means there are plans in place for a third and fourth.

“Lost Tapes 2, thatÔÇÖs done, thatÔÇÖs the Mass Appeal release,” he explains to HHDX. “TheyÔÇÖll be a three and a four. As long as IÔÇÖm recordingÔǪ You know you just got the stuff that just donÔÇÖt make the final cut so it makes space for something else. I donÔÇÖt like them just lingering out there, you have to find a home for your songs. And Lost Tapes 2 is it. ItÔÇÖs been a couple years since the first one. I think the Lost Tapes 2 couldÔÇÖve came out already honestly. But itÔÇÖs cool because everything works out in time. So, yeah I wish that Lost Tapes 2 has been out already, but things happen the way they happen.”

Whatever Nas has laying in the vault will be held to high expectations. Lost Tapes is regarded as one of his best projects, even if Nas himself doesn’t view it in context of his discography. He says, “I mean itÔÇÖs a group of songs, so itÔÇÖs album, but also itÔÇÖs not really my album. ItÔÇÖs just a bunch of songs.” Still, Lost Tapes houses some of his best songs, and the future installments hopefully provide us with more moments of “Why didn’t Nas put this out sooner?!?”
