Sean Price Takes Other MCs To School On His New Posthumous Track, ÔÇÿRap ProfessorÔÇÖ

Duck Down

A year ago today, we lost Sean Price. The man and the myth whose legend grew when he went solo with 2005’s┬áMonkey Barz. The gorilla was let out of the cage and the world is a lot more boring without him in it. Apparently not even death can stop him as Duck Down is prepping his posthumous album,┬áImperius Rex.

“Rap Professor” is our first taste.

“This ain’t the same Sean from the last album Don’t smoke weed or smoke a seed but I blast barrels Clap Harold in the ride with┬áKane N****s get burnt lyrically I’m supplying the flame Providing the caine so pure I don’t cut on it Track ain’t crack unless Ruck on it”

That last line kinda makes me misty-eyed. It’s not just the braggadocio, but it’s the truth behind it. This will be one of–if not the–last time we hear P on a track and do what he did better than anyone else. Provide dope rhymes over hard beats with a strong conviction that he was the best in the game and he dared you to disagree.

If you’re in NYC tonight, there’s a tribute show at Webster Hall. Boot Camp will be in the building, along with Skyzoo, Sadat X, Lord Jamar, and more. Plus Just Blaze and Pete Rock doing DJ sets. You can cop your tickets here. I’m┬áin my feelings I can’t go.

Imperious Rex is coming soon and I kinda don’t want it to. Once that happens, the book┬áon Ruck will officially be finished. That’s a sad reality to wake up to.
