One of our favorite underground giants, Thelonious Martin, is in the process of dropping a project called Late Nite Programming, which is an instrumental tape cleverly themed around the sound and feel of nostalgic television shows.

As a precursor to the tape, the Chicago producer dropped the Static EP, a three track intro to LNP that gives listeners a glimpse into what the full project will sound like. As Theo says on Soundcloud, “This like a secret channel you only get if you wiggle the antenna just right.”

More specifically, each of the three “acts” feature multiple beats in one, which all carry an old school vibrance to them, but still manage to sound casual enough to have dialogue over. Maybe even a laugh track. From there, KT splices in classic TV soundbites of everything from Soul Train and old James Brown interviews to old Eagleman Car Insurance commercials. Despite being short and basically a teaser, the seven minute project actually holds quite a bit of weight.

While you wait for a full season of smooth, sampled bliss from King Thelonius’s upcoming Late Nite Programming project, make sure to check out Static too. The project’s name definitely doesn’t do the quality justice.
