A┬ádocumentary┬áchronicling the lives of Destiny’s Child and Beyonc├® , A Child of Destiny,┬áhas finally been completed, and reveals key moments in their journeys to international stardom.
Aiding the girls in becoming successful recording artists were their three managers,┬áMatthew Knowles┬á(Beyonc├® ‘s father), Brian Kenny Moore┬áand Andretta Tillman. Though BeyonceÔÇÖs fatherÔÇÖs influence is well-known, business partners Moore and Tillman┬ámade huge impacts on the┬ágirls since they were preteens. According to Beyonc├® ┬ábiographer J. Randy Taraborrelli, Moore pushed the others to pursue Beyonc├® ┬áas the front woman of the group.
It┬áwas TillmanÔÇÖs ambitious vision, however, that took Girls Tyme to the next level, DestinyÔÇÖs Child. Her achievements included record deals, industry coaching and life advice for teenage girls trying to make it big. Tillman also got the girls signed to Elektra and Columbia/Sony Records.
Couple with her job as manager, Tillman also raised two children alone once her husband died from his┬ábattle with Lupus. After her untimely death in 1997, DestinyÔÇÖs Child credited Tillman during their acceptance speech for their first-ever award at the 1998 Soul Train Awards. Her story inspired Moore to write a book, The Making of a Child of Destiny: The Andretta Tillman Story, which set the blueprint of the new documentary.
A Child of Destiny comes from the efforts of Tillman Management Group, The Andretta Tillman Estate and Dousic Film & Television, and is directed by Gigi Githoro. Moore, Michael Ferguson of Dousic Media Group, and her son Armon Tillman act as executive producers.
The documentary will shed not only lights on Tillman and the singers, but Lupus as well. In a frame of two years, Moore wrote the book, a version for young adults, and the script for the documentary. He also finished the screenplay for the taleÔÇÖs adaptation into a feature film.
Son Armon Tillman is happy that his mother is finally getting the public acclaim she deserves. “So often people have told the Beyonc├® and DestinyÔÇÖs Child story, and she was briefly mentioned or forgotten all together,ÔÇØ he said. “My brother Chris and I were young when our mom was laying the foundation for Beyonc├® and DestinyÔÇÖs Child. Now learning firsthand what she did and how vital she was to Beyonc├® and DestinyÔÇÖs ChildÔÇÖs success, brings absolute joy to my heart.”
The film will first be screened privately in Houston in October before its official November premiere.
