Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West has dished on his past announcement of running for president in 2020 and explained why the United States is dealing with some serious social problems.

In a new interview, Ye downplayed the idea of being involved in a ’20 presidential election and placed attention on fixing America’s everyday issues right now.

We are numb, were numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, were numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July  were numb to places on the earth that we dont live  like our life is okay but its okay for other peoples lives to not be okay. When I talk about the idea of being president, Im not saying I have any political views, I dont have views on politics, I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth. If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while Im alive Im going to try to do it. (BBC Radio 1)

Last February, rap star 50 Cent considered the idea of Kanye running for the presidency.

“I don’t know [who I’m voting for]. I think it’s scary that Donald Trump’s in the lead. That idea Kanye came up with for going for president, I don’t know. He ain’t got no criminal background. He’s actually following the messaging points.” (Shade 45 StreetzIzWatchin)

A few months ago, Kanye went back on a Twitter tirade with a reference to his 2020 run.

G.O.O.D. Music producer Malik Yusef recently confirmed Ye’s plans to run for the presidency in the next four years.

Asked whether Kanye West still plans on running for president in 2020, Yusef said “the last time I talked to him” he said he would. “He would run as a democrat or possibly as an independent,” Yusef said, adding “I’d run against him.” (CNN)
