A Tribe Called QuestÔÇÖs Phife Dawg Gets New York City Street Named After Him

According to┬áa Facebook post by DJ Rasta Root, Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor‘s friend and DJ, a New York City street will officially be named after the late A Tribe Called Quest emcee at 10 a.m. EST on August 3.

The New York City Mayor’s office said the Mayor Bill de Blasio┬áis signing the bill to co-name Linden Boulevard at 192 Street to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Way.┬áIt was there that he and childhood friend┬áQ-Tip formed A Tribe Called Quest. They eventually┬ábecame one of the most highly regarded┬áand influential Hip Hop┬ágroups of all time.

Tragically, Phife Dawg died at age 45 on March 22, 2016 from complications stemming from his battle with diabetes.

After his passing, Beats 1 premiered ÔÇ£Nutshell,ÔÇØ an unreleased Phife Dawg song produced by J Dilla. A┬áportion of the proceeds┬áwere donated┬áto the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation.

“I love it,” Rasta Root said via text message. “We saw the process through in conjunction with the mayor’s office. He loved everything about his block. He was it and it was him. It makes perfect sense to me. Things have come full circle.”
