Kanye West ‘Late Registration’ Original Art Direction

Today, Late Registration turns 11.

August 30th was a great day for the start of my senior year of high school and, this may sound bougie, but seniors got to drive and park at the school so Late Registration was my soundtrack that whole first semester.

Needless to say, the album had a great impact on me at a formative time. I probably waver depending on the day of the week, but Late Registration is my favorite Kanye album. (And that speaks more to the amazing albums he has, plural.)

Alas, a quick peruse of the social media channels today was met with a lot of nostalgic tributes, and fun facts about the album that I didn’t even know. For example, M.I.A. was supposed to be on “Drive Slow”.

I also found this, via Hypebeast. Original art direction from Louis Marino. I’m a design snob and of the creative process so I’m eating up all of these sketches.

Concept #2 is my favorite and the Legos idea just would have been dope in general. Think of all the Kanye Lego collectibles we could’ve had! (I also love Legos.)

And lastly, I’m sure you’d appreciate a quick video. I love the “Touch The Sky” Late Orchestration performance (so much so that in my return visits to Chicago during college I played this on repeat upon entering downtown.) In case you have a similar feeling, or are coming across this for the first time, press play below.

Did I mention I love this album?
