The Weeknd on SNL

The SNL Premiere tonight is about as good a combo as you get: the beautiful and talented Margot Robbie with musical guest The Weeknd.

Sure enough too, The Weeknd timed his first two singles off Starboy for release in the week leading up to tonight and he’s already got a #1 hit with this title track. The performance is simple but comes correct, with a big cross in the background too to drive home the video. I loved how he ended it with some impromptu ad-libs over the chorus, and the long hold on “Starboy”. So watch that one through to the end.

Weeknd also performed this week’s release “False Alarm”, which I have since seen a co-producer credit for Chicago’s Mano (he got one again!) Super dope. While I’m still on “Starboy” more, “False Alarm” was heavy in my going-out playlist tonight too and is growing on me with each listen. The performance helps it out too.

And finally, because it’s so fitting… The Weeknd Update. Har. har. har.
