Kobe Bryant has nothing but high praise for Russell Westbrook and his headstrong demeanor. He spoke with Jim Rome of CBS Sports and he singled out Russell as the only player who reminds him most of himself.
Oklahoma Thunder guard Russell Westbrook is looking forward to a season minus the Warriors Kevin Durant. Many journalist have predicted that Westbrook will go on to win the NBA MVP for next year based on Durant’s departure. Kobe Bryant and many others are rooting for Westbrook who came up short against the warriors in the western conference finals.
“When I turn on the TV and I watch players play, the player that plays with the same kind of emotion and grit and competitive intensity is Russell [Westbrook],” Bryant said of the All-Star guard. “Russell is going hard. Doesn’t matter who he is playing against, doesn’t matter what the odds are, he’s going, that’s a guy, he is going 110 percent every single time.”
Kobe made sure that he detailed why he feels Westbrook identifies with him most when it comes to his savy drive, determination and killer instinct:
“When I was young and playing, that wasn’t the perception. The perception was that I was headstrong, obsessive about the game of basketball, but as time has gone on and people have been able to see how obsessive I’ve been about winning, then that’s kind of become, they’ve kind of come to know me as that, right. So there are certain young players out there, I’m sure, that have that mentality, but over time we will be able to see who is who.”
This NBA season will definitely be one to remember as moves have been made and teams have stacked up to become powerhouses. The lakers who now have Brandon Ingram will play alongside killer guard D’Angelo Russell. The knicks have D-Rose and Chi-Town has D-Wade who will play alongside another killer guard in Jimmy Butler.
