Seattle Mariners Catcher Suspended For Tweeting That Black Lives Matter And Obama Are “Animals”

Seattle Mariners back-up catcher Steve Clevenger has been suspended without pay for the rest of the season after he tweeted disparaging remarks about Black Lives Matter and President Obama.

Earlier this week Clevenger was watching the Charlotte protests on television like the rest of us and decided to pitch in his two cents on Twitter.

Disgusted more by what he saw than what actually sparked the protests, Clevenger tweeted:

“Black people beating whites when a thug got shot holding a gun by a black police officer. Haha sh*t cracks me up! Keep kneeling for the Anthem!”

and then…

“BLM is pathetic once again. Obama you are pathetic once again! Everyone involved should be locked behind bars like animals.’’

As people started calling him out as racist, Clevenger attempted to explain himself by posting this a message on sports writer Ken Rosenthal’s Facebook page.

If you’re wondering why Clevenger had time to watch television and tweet during the season, it’s because the Mariners didn’t have a game on Thursday. Furthermore, he suffered a season-ending injury over the summer.

He was still getting paid for his troubles, but not anymore. The Mariners announced that they have suspended Clevenger for the season, without pay. They released a statement before they made the move.
